Karpathians Abroad
The inhabitants of the island of Karpathos were forced to immigrate to all parts of the world in the early 1900’s to seek a better economic future.
Their love for the island did not diminish, despite the fact that most of them were thousands of miles away on distant continents. Educational welfare, advancement and cultural organizations were promptly formed in their new homes. They were formed to keep the Karpathians united in their efforts to uphold their love for education and their cultural heritage. They gathered money to be sent back home where they had often left the rest of the members of their families. Proof of this was the vast sums of money that were sent back to the island funding projects to improve conditions on Karpathos for its inhabitants at the time as well as its future inhabitants. . One of these organizations is called Omonia of Aperi.Click on its emblem below for more information.
