Vasilis L Minaides was born on 1935 of Karpathian parents. He graduated from the Athens Economic and Commercial University on 1958. After fulfilling his Greek military obligations as an officer, he took over the management of his family’s business, the Hermes Hotel in Rhodes Greece. On 1975 he expanded the business by building and operating the Apollo Beach Hotel of Faliraki, Rhodes. He holds the post of the hotel’s chairman of the board since its opening till today.
Parallel to the successful professional activities with the hotel business, Mr. Minaides has been very active with trade unions and social organizations.
Since 1965 he has been on the board of the Hotel Owners Association for the island of Rhodes.
In the past ten years he has earned the trust of his fellow hotel owners by being elected by a wide margin, to the position of president of the Hotel Owners Association for the island of Rhodes.
During the years of 2000 till 2006 he had also earned the respect of Greek hotel owners by being voted president of the Federation of Greek Hotel Owners.
During the years of 1998 to 2001 he has held the position of president of the Greek Institute of Tourist Research and Forecasting.
He has been a member of the Greek Organization of Mediation and Arbitration for Labor Grievances.
He has been a member of the Greek National Tourist Council.
On a local level, his intervention in Greek southeastern region’s economic development has been significant.
He has been president of the Cooperative Bank of the Dodecanese Islands from 1097 to 2007.
In 1996 he helped form the Organization for the Promotion of Rhodes Tourism.
He helped form the Hotel Owners Organization of the Dodecanese Islands.
Member of the Tourist, Economic and Social Committee for the prefecture of the Dodecanese Islands.
His determination and love of the island was instrumental in opening a branch to the Cooperative Bank of the Dodecanese Islands in Pigadia, Karpathos.
His assistance in the promotion of Karpathos as a tourist destination has been immeasurable. For instance, in the early years of Karpathian tourism, he made sure Karpathos was present in the various international tourist exhibitions held yearly throughout Europe. He always found room for the Karpathos Island exhibition, often without any monetary obligation to the Karpathian organizations, by being included with the Rhodes or Dodecanese Islands exhibitions.
